Wonderful Things

giphy5

My family has been treating me so wonderfully the past couple of weeks. Let’s enumerate the wonderful things they’ve done for me:

My husband:

  • Has gone to the post office to retrieve numerous packages for me
  • Has found the money to allow me to shop my brains out, since it’s just about the only thing I have time and patience for. Plus Zebra outfits!
  • He brought home French Fries for me even though they were out of his way and it was late at night and he was tired
  • He got out of the warm shower to grab me a barf bucket
  • He watched an episode of South Park just because I asked
  • He has run so many errands for me, I can’t even count them!

My Daughter, 15

  • She has been filling my water bottles regularly
  • Listening to my exciting stories even when she’s bored
  • Checking up on me to make sure I have everything
  • Bringing me breakfast during the week

My Son, 13 in 6 days!

  • He has been keeping my water bottles full
  • He has been spending time with me, like the two hours last night where he snuggled and watched TV and chatted
  • Remembering not to hug me without asking, because I’m so sore
  • Bringing my coffee in the morning on weekends

My family has been awesome. Except for:

Husband:

  • Forgetting about me in the bathtub and nobody hearing me yelling about getting the shower head down, so I had to wash my hair under the tap. It was a bit uncomfortable, but not the end of the world. I did have fun teasing him about it, though! 😄

I prefer to get help in and out of the tub as I’ve been so shaky lately.  I don’t need that much assistance, just someone to ‘catch’ me, really, if I start to go over. Or call 9-1-1 if I pass out. I’m still so weak from whatever is going on with me.

I hope you enjoyed my glimpse into my family. Are you interested in my Sephora Haul? I can either show a photo here, or link my Beauty Blog post. Let me know.

Stay healthy Zebras! 😘

Goals

giphy11

I had lofty intentions for this blog, but it seems to have devolved lately into a daily diary of my exploits. I could have said pain – but that’s just melodramatic. 😄 it’s kind of true, though.  I really do document my day to day pain at this point. I am in Survival mode, essentially.

…I started writing several hours ago. I’ve been distracted, had a nap, fielded a call from my daughter’s art teacher, (she suffers from anxiety, and has had spotty attendance this past month. He was concerned, understands, thinks she’s awesome. She endeavoured to turn in an assignment today, even though she was struggling).

As I was saying, I feel like I’m still in survival mode. I’ve had to shed most of my activities not actively related to living. This morning I felt as if I had taken a step out of the ooze. It’s great when I can add things back, like playing with makeup. Geez. Putting on makeup is something most people take for granted. For me, playing can take two or three hours for a simple face. A face most people would put on for date night. It takes me so long because I rest between steps, lie down, have to stretch.

I had to tell my mom I needed some space for a bit. I feel so responsible to her, but if I don’t get to her for a bit (Dad too, of course) I feel guilty, but I need to strip my life for a bit again. Just the basics. Making sure I get enough sleep, eating properly, taking my medicine and vitamins, bathing – which can be tough. I need to be for my family right now.

It looks like my husband needs to go for more consultation on his eye. He went to the doctor on Saturday, and the pressure was up in his left eye. The doctor wants him to see another specialist. Soon. I’m concerned. He was prescribed more drops, fully researched, for the one eye. Within two days his eye was red and angry again.

It’s kind of stressful over here. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised if I am feeling exhausted and out of sorts. I’m trying to be responsive to and supportive of my friends, but it’s rather like I’m a flailing drunk trying to make sense of it all. My head pain has increased again, which isn’t too surprising, since I haven’t been looking after myself.

Going forward, I pledge to be gentler to myself. I will practice good self-care and remember I cannot be my best self if I am out of sorts.

My family needs me.

Besides, what ever turns out the way we expect it to, anyway?

Thanks for being here, Zebra friends! 😘

My Wonderful Husband 💙

giphy8

Things got a bit awkward? no, unfortunate last night. My darling husband and I started to snuggle, and we got about as far as Marge and Homer in the above .gif, only we were still wearing our matching pajamas (yes, every year at Christmas I buy the family matching pajamas. We are Canadian and it’s May, of course they’re on!) when suddenly I had the blinding head pain and nausea return. I was so upset. I’ve been in too much pain to be intimate for so long. Of course he understood, and just held me. He has to stop being attractive, too, though.

I was thinking if I should ask him if I could tell this story, I paused and I could almost hear him say “Why? It’s facts!” I started to cry. He’s so wonderful. Of course, just then my kids burst in with early Mother’s day gifts. They had a makeup brush I wanted and deodorant in a particular scent. They bought three sticks! My son informed me. Also, I stink. They wanted to know why I was crying, of course, so I told them it was because their dad was wonderful. They were fine with that. My husband rounded the corner shortly after and I had a chance to ask him if he would be embarrassed if I shared the story of last night. “Why, it’s facts?” He said.

Yesterday I just slept all day. I had stuff I wanted to do, but a two-hour nap turned into three, which became five… I think it was good. The pressure in my head was bad, and I needed to relax. My husband suggested I sleep in again today, but I thought if I did that I might not get up at all. When am I going to accept that he is always right? I did some makeup stuff, but the photos are awful. If I don’t feel good, the photos don’t turn out. Waste of time if I can’t show off. Or if I cringe looking at the photos.

Right now my head is throbbing and my jaw really hurts. I overdid things. My pubic bone hurts, too, likely from sitting up so long the past few days. I ache all over. I can’t remember much of any conversation. Watching TV is futile. I can only watch reruns of animated stuff I’ve seen a million times. I can’t follow other stuff. Law and Order was really bad. Archer is baffling to me. I keep calling him Bob. My husband watches sports beside me on his tablet. Or we watch together.

Ha! Husband just ran in, gave me a kiss and ran out again.

This head thing is really frustrating, but my husband really cheers me up. So glad he’s in my life. 💙

For Mothers day (because my husband is such a terrible speller, we refer to it as Mothra’s day, and of course Fathead’s day. Although that may have come about as a autoreplace suggestion. 🤔 My husband is a Fathead, yes he is! Full of knowledge!)

Anyway, I haven’t really been feeling well enough to do anything for my Mother, so in appreciation, Mom, if you are reading this, I will not take you to see Snatched this weekend, that atrocious looking movie with Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer. My Mom works so hard looking after my Dad, she deserves major snaps, because she has her own challenges, yet she cares for him tirelessly. I’ve long felt it’s easier to be the patient than the carer. I know I would have bailed long ago.

I’m feeling really frustrated with this stupid head pressure affecting things so much. I didn’t even vape yesterday because inhaling was going to hurt too much. That’s not good. I’m frustrated it’s taking from the tiny amount of leisure I was afforded. I don’t want to have to give everything up. I’ve had to give up so many hobbies already.

I’m scared it will come down to choosing between functioning and being comfortable.

Have a great evening, Zebra pals! 😘

Mellow Afternoon

giphy16

I just skimmed my post from the middle of the night last night. Wow, my spell predictor is aggressive! I usually fight with it, but I was so tired last night. Husband was snoring, and the kids were wandering around. I didn’t feel right sleeping. I was also in pain. I did drop off, finally. Husband has meetings all day, so he’s busy. Fortunately, boy’s therapy was cancelled today. He usually only snores like that when he’s congested or exhausted.

He went to his usual grocery run this morning and bought me a plush blanket to wrap around my wedge behind me. I can snuggle into it. It’s gorgeous! It makes me feel cared for.

You know, I read these articles that go viral about girls feeling sad, and their boyfriends buy them three things from Sephora. I devised a spreadsheet to track my purchases, as my memory is bad. We know what brain fog does! I spent, with permission and encouragement! over $1500 in treats of mostly makeup last month because my husband felt I was feeling low. Which isn’t to show off, there were some major limited edition drops last month that needed to be acted on immediately or not at all. This didn’t cause us financial hardship, I’m trying to say this without sounding like an asshole. It’s not, though, like we had to go without food.

But that’s only a very tiny thing compared to managing my pills, and being at every doctor appointment, treatment, surgery, dentist appointment, rearranging his work schedule so he can. When he is home, he runs upstairs at every buzz so he can get something I need or pick up something I dropped, or bring me food, or rub my back. He makes my phone calls, our kids’ phone calls, he takes them to the doctor, too. He’s been doing this for at least fifteen years. Although, I used to be able to attend some doctor appointments on my own, so eight years.

When he’s not at home, he’s in touch by text or phone, checking up or checking in. Working hard and excelling in his career. Never taking an actual holiday, in fact violating HR policy by taking days piecemeal. But when forced to take days off is bored.

He crawls into bed exhausted every night from cooking our meals, quelling our anxieties, and making us laugh through it all. When we try to credit and thank him, he dismisses us, saying he doesn’t do anything the average Mom doesn’t do.

I’m a pretty lucky person. I wish I could properly thank him. Yes, I say thank you all the time! He waves me off. I love him more than anything. It’s the best thing I can do 😍!

Have a wonderful day, Zebra friends! 😘

Mixed Emotions

giphy6

I have the feels again. These are mostly anger and shock. I’m finally vaping the higher dose THC pot this morning. I mixed it with just a bit of my regular stuff because it has certainly little cannabinoid in there and I wanted it to be something substantial, not a desperation experiment. Well, here I am, and my back doesn’t hurt finally. I don’t feel stupid. I feel tired, but relaxed. Cold. My pubic bone hurts. My hands hurt. I don’t feel like sitting around playing video games. I feel productive. Artistic. Comfortable, almost. Getting there. I’m hungry.

I know I’m angry. Angry that I was kept from pain relief because… why? I can’t be in as much pain as I say I am? I must be a drug seeker? I remember joking with a (male, ironically) friend about us potentially being roofied, and surprising some guy/gal by saying “ooh, I feel great, do you have another of those things you slipped in my drink?” 😄 I’m one of those EDSers that is tough to drug. I used to blame my weight, but I don’t think that’s entirely it. I seem to have a high drug tolerance.

My body has been feeling not hellish for five minutes, it’s been nice. I have been struggling through. I put together a post for the beauty blog yesterday. It took me all day, but it gave my day some structure. I took a couple of naps, rearranged some things on my computer, watched TV. It was nice and peaceful. I remember how my parents used to nag me about making friends and being friends and going outside, and I have brief moments of anxiety that I’m not talking to enough people. But then I remember what happened last time I spoke to people, and I hide under the covers.

So, to recap, emotions: anger at my old pot doctor for withholding working drugs from me, gratefulness to my new pot doctor for listening and caring, anger and hate toward my genes for this situation to begin with, happiness at the momentary relief, annoyance at my internal dialogue, bliss at the momentary silence.

I was so out of it with pain the other day my husband came over to help me fid something. He handed it to me and I actually said, “Good Boy!”. WE DO NOT HAVE DOGS!!!

My Botox treatment is on April 4th, so that is one week. I just need to hang on a while longer, and we start the circus again. I can feel the pain in my head returning, I’ve had a slow, dull headache for a couple of days now. My neck and jaw just ache.

I want to crawl out of my body. Just leave it behind like an exoskeleton.

Wishing you a great day Zebra buddies! 😘

Self Care

giphy1

I have been trying to catch up on reading blog posts, but I can’t focus long enough to read through a whole post. I have a great makeup idea, but I am just too tired and sore. I have things for the Instagram and my blog for tomorrow. I can throw my Beauty Blog post together in 45 minutes, will anyone notice if I don’t post? 🙄

I’m going to try to read, then nap until my kids leave school. I’m shaking. After they are home I will decide what’s next.

My toenails may not get painted today, unless I need the stretch.

So worn out I’m seeing double!  I don’t hurt if I don’t move. Okay, maybe I will read when I wake up…

Be kind to yourself Zebras! 😘

Worn Out

It’s been a long week. I don’t feel like I’ve had much time to myself. My kids have been needy. Which is fine, I just haven’t had any recovery time. I don’t feel like many of my interactions with the world have been all that pleasant, either. Every second person who contacts me on Facebook messenger is trying to sell me something. And these are brand new friends, not people I’ve had interaction with!

My lovely husband ran out and picked up new cable boxes for us last night. All last week they wouldn’t turn on, I couldn’t get any television at all..unless it would randomly decide to turn on, which it did occasionally. But mostly it would be pixillated garbage. The cable company would reset, but last night they finally said, yeah we have to replace those things, so he took them in. It’s great, because now I actually have room to record stuff. This has 400x the space or something. But the downside is I can’t read the guide. It’s on my tablet, but… blah.

We did our taxes. We spent $34,000 on out of pocket medical expenses last year. We are damn lucky to have that money, that’s my pension/Ltd money income right there. That went to medical marijuana, therapy for me and the kids, orthodontic work, likely, and my injection fees for Botox. I was mistaken about the tax situation. It turns out we get 3% of it back in our taxes. Whee. I don’t know what I could have done without that treatment. I’d probably be dead. I’d be in so much pain. Those are my two main sources of pain relief, Botox and mmj. Not to mention getting into the pain clinic which costs. There’s a huge fee. I’d have done myself in.

My neck is hurting so bad and I have such nausea today I am in tears. I had to help my son today with homework, and I snapped when he stabbed me with his pencil once too often. I feel awful.

I just need a break. I need a night out. With friends. Not a tall order at all!

Hope you’re having a great day, Zebras! 😘
