Hang Head, Feel Shame.

I have been so neglectful of keeping you updated, I really should be ashamed of myself. However, I have experienced a very disruptive two weeks, and I am merely catching up now.

20171031_211201.jpg

Firstly, today is my 47th birthday. (Cheers, applause) I take birthdays pretty darn seriously. I always have. Partly, because it gives me an excuse for self-care, which is not something I allow myself on a regular basis, although I am getting much better. I tend to celebrate myself for a week or a month. Depending. I have never celebrated my birthday with a party as an adult. I only had a couple of parties as a kid, then we had the family parties where we celebrated everyone’s birthday that month. In my 20s, we were too poor and I was always working, then babies and now I’m eating so funny, and I can never get anyone together. The banking industry has its year-end on October 31, so most of my friends were really busy these past two weeks to a month. Including my husband. I hope he starts coming to bed before I’m on my last leg now!

Enough of that whining, Sephora started their Rouge Sale this morning, so I saved up for ages! Bought tons of goodies! Yay! Toys!

It seems my Botox kicked in on Monday sometime. So I’m feeling much better. I need to be very careful and ensure I lie down, avoid stress, eat properly, relax, rest, but as long as I take care I have a lot of improvement. I’m excited for Christmas!

It seems our son may not have autism. He was evaluated with the school psychologist, and while he presents as autistic, he is very anxious and has some serious learning disabilities we are trying to negotiate. They involve information processing and executive function. Once these are rectified, he may do just fine, and the autistic appearance will hopefully fall away. If it doesn’t, then he is autistic and we have more to work on.

Still having trouble with daughter attending school regularly. Her anxiety is just overwhelming.

So that’s what has been occupying my day to day. Both kids have needed more time from me, so I’ve been there for them. I’m tired today. Mellow. This afternoon cries for a nap.

I did have some fun with Halloween costumes.

Beware the Rainbow Kitty!

Who’s the cutest zebra you’ve ever seen? 😛

Hope you had a great Halloween!!!

Here’s hoping things get back to ‘normal’ lol!

Srsly.

giphy4This would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic. I woke up this morning, after a fairly decent sleep. Husband went out on Saturday, his friend was in town so I got twelve hours sleep in. Then last night I fell asleep around 10:00, woke up a few times, but 6:00 came round, as it does, and I woke up cheery!

Until I had to call my husband to grab the barf bucket.

So this is what’s going on today. I am weak and exhausted, which I was blaming on the cold, but I guess is a flu? And food is completely unappealing. I’ve taken some Gravol, and I think it’s time for pill 2.

I was looking forward to feeling better today, maybe playing with some makeup, but that isn’t going to happen, I don’t think. Looks like a quiet day napping. Sigh. Again.

I bought some of the cutest clothes at Old Navy! I had to revamp my wardrobe at my new size. They had a bunch of cute items with Zebras on them! I can’t wait until they get here and I’m well enough to show you! ☺

Have a restful day, Zebra friends! 😘 I’m taking a sign from the universe to rest.

New Attitude

giphy12

I’m not gonna lie, the death of Chris Cornell has hit me hard. Aside from the usual fangirling, the man was only 5 years older than I am.  His voice is just something that moves me like nothing else. I’ve been randomly bursting into tears. But it really has brought about some changes and reflection.

Honestly, everyone, absolutely everyone has baggage we can’t

Chris Cornell

see. So why is this world becoming so very hostile? I truly don’t understand, but I am not about to be trampled any longer.

All my life I’ve tried so hard to be wonderful, to be accepted. To have friends. To be loved and nice and well thought of. What has it gotten me? Some truly outrageous behaviour by some people.

  • A person I went to  high school with lectured me in front of a group of people at my 20 year reunion about what a stupid mistake it had been to marry my ex-husband.
  • My mother in law tried to convince my husband to take our two kids and leave me because I was sick. She was convinced he could find someone ‘well’ to look after him, because that’s what he deserves.
  • She also refused to have my name put on the car insurance for the car they essentially gave us because she didn’t want me driving it for ‘fun’. I wanted to be able to take the kids to hospital if need be. Husband threatened to return the car. I never drove it anyway. I’ve given up driving because of my medication.
  • My ex husband offered his business associates the opportunity to have sex with me in lieu of the money he owed them. I found this out years later. I was not complicit.
  • I chose a certain woman to be matron of honour at my wedding, she told me many years on another woman was so bitter about not being chosen she complained the whole time. Why did I have to know? I was friends with the complainer for another ten years before we had an ugly breakup where she accidently sent me an email saying ugly things about me.

So, my point is, if I’m getting this treatment after trying my hardest, why am I trying so hard? This is, of course, not an exhaustive list. I don’t know why I inspire such hatred sometimes. Such loathing. My good friend’s husband still hates me 20 years after I had to drop out of their wedding. I don’t think he gets that my then husband took every dime I was making and was alienating my relatives. I couldn’t go to them. I still cry at night over that.  Why do people seem to think I’m unaware of the stupid things I’ve done? Or maybe there was good reason?

I’m sliding into a mode where I can only do for me now. I wake up. I coffee up. Med up. Breakfast. Vape. Get some makeup. Why do I makeup? Internet likes? No. But it’s fun to show my work. I like to zen out. I can relax. Be creative. And I can touch a part of myself that doesn’t hurt. My face. It takes two sometimes three hours to get my face on and photographed. Not because I’m slow, but because I need to rest so much. I lie down and get my pressure regulated or rest my hands. Then I nap. Dinner, visit with husband, bed. Meds in there, interspersed. My kids visit. They’re pretty independent. They need me, though. Don’t get me wrong.

Frankly, the way I’m feeling, I could really sleep all day. Every day. But really, that’s no fun at all.

EDS Awareness Look

My head and neck are still bothering me, and are really ramping up, in fact. Yesterday was bad. I did a makeup look for EDS awareness month, and I was so tired after. I wanted to post to the blog, but I was going to have a quick nap. Four hours. Probably best that I didn’t. It would have been angry.

I have been wracking my mind. If your relationships are all crap, you should really look at the common denominator. That’s me. I need to change something. Everyone can’t be a jerk, right?

I do have some very loyal friends, however. Don’t think my life is bleak and terrible. Oddly enough, they almost all seem to be nurses or have chronic illnesses themselves. I am constantly amazed at my husband.

I often wonder: do I not share enough? Am I not upfront enough? Am I too retiring? Am I too pushy?

But you know what? I can’t anymore. I just need to live. I will continue to be kind, as always. Respectful, of course. But I can’t work so hard anymore. I need to focus on myself. I need to focus on me. I’m project #1 right now. Family is second. I used to worry there would be nobody to attend my funeral. I can’t anymore. I can’t worry about my afterlife when I’m not even living this one. Such as it is. It’s mine.

I need to build it.

Have a great day, fellow Zebras! 😘

Goals

giphy11

I had lofty intentions for this blog, but it seems to have devolved lately into a daily diary of my exploits. I could have said pain – but that’s just melodramatic. 😄 it’s kind of true, though.  I really do document my day to day pain at this point. I am in Survival mode, essentially.

…I started writing several hours ago. I’ve been distracted, had a nap, fielded a call from my daughter’s art teacher, (she suffers from anxiety, and has had spotty attendance this past month. He was concerned, understands, thinks she’s awesome. She endeavoured to turn in an assignment today, even though she was struggling).

As I was saying, I feel like I’m still in survival mode. I’ve had to shed most of my activities not actively related to living. This morning I felt as if I had taken a step out of the ooze. It’s great when I can add things back, like playing with makeup. Geez. Putting on makeup is something most people take for granted. For me, playing can take two or three hours for a simple face. A face most people would put on for date night. It takes me so long because I rest between steps, lie down, have to stretch.

I had to tell my mom I needed some space for a bit. I feel so responsible to her, but if I don’t get to her for a bit (Dad too, of course) I feel guilty, but I need to strip my life for a bit again. Just the basics. Making sure I get enough sleep, eating properly, taking my medicine and vitamins, bathing – which can be tough. I need to be for my family right now.

It looks like my husband needs to go for more consultation on his eye. He went to the doctor on Saturday, and the pressure was up in his left eye. The doctor wants him to see another specialist. Soon. I’m concerned. He was prescribed more drops, fully researched, for the one eye. Within two days his eye was red and angry again.

It’s kind of stressful over here. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised if I am feeling exhausted and out of sorts. I’m trying to be responsive to and supportive of my friends, but it’s rather like I’m a flailing drunk trying to make sense of it all. My head pain has increased again, which isn’t too surprising, since I haven’t been looking after myself.

Going forward, I pledge to be gentler to myself. I will practice good self-care and remember I cannot be my best self if I am out of sorts.

My family needs me.

Besides, what ever turns out the way we expect it to, anyway?

Thanks for being here, Zebra friends! 😘

Finding Joy

inyqrgp9o3nua

My pain is feeling better. My breakthrough pain is subsiding. I feel it’s under control, but still a hair-trigger trap. I am taking my breakthrough meds. It sounds like a children’s book.  “She takes her breakthrough meds for her breakthrough pain, in her breakthrough house…😀”

My son came home from his school trip last night. He wouldn’t even speak to me. He wouldn’t come near me. He was exhausted.  He hadn’t slept the whole trip. This morning he revealed he had a panic attack on the bus coming home.  After 3 days of poor sleep it isn’t surprising. I hope they weren’t too cruel, however grade 7 boys… he won’t say.

wp-1488055003514.jpgI had a good chat with my sister. I love it when she’s able to chat. Shes teaching English in Beijing.  I was whining about my flare-up and she, in the spirit of those who are oh, so well-meaning but not helpful, suggested I try hot water, trying to be funny. She suggested I drink it until I was dead. It struck me so funny. She always cheers me up. She sent me the cutest video of her dancing with one of her students! It was the cutest!

Let me share other places I find joy!

Beauty and self-care:

Don’t automatically knock this. There is a lot to be said for putting some effort into your routine if you’re feeling up to it one day. I don’t necessarily mean every day, if it’s not your thing. But if you enjoy it, put on makeup,  pull your hair back if you can’t do both in one day. Take some photos. Remind yourself you can look average. Do a mask. If your products are too precious, see if you have the spoons one day to make it into a Sephora or another store for a makeover, or if a friend will come over and help. Guys, too, can benefit from a mask, brow trim, and foot mask.

Box subscriptions:

There is a cost associated with this, but if you can ask for one for a gift, you may be on to something. Things like Topbox in Canada can be had for $12 per month, so shop around for your favourite things and see if there is something you can take advantage of.

There are more than just Beauty boxes out there. There is everything from beer to razor clubs to monthly menstrual clubs. My advice is to find a regional subscription box blogger and go from there. Two I like are @pinkaboutboxes on Instagram and @girlmeetsbox also on Instagram.

Product Review Clubs:

I am a member of Influenster.ca and Chickadviser.ca. They provide samples of products to be reviewed. Influenster is very hit and miss, Chickadviser.ca you can sign up for your products, although they sometimes send you things you don’t sign up for. It’s always stuff you use anyway, like shampoo, so its not like I have to go out and try to use a chainsaw! 😃 Product Review clubs only send out products a few times per year, so it’s not a large commitment. Influenster sometimes has you post to Instagram, it’s a little more involved, but lots of lead time.

Not only does this give you a bit of a hobby if you want one, but it gets stuff for free, too. A bit of digging can show the amazing plethora of items available. Many beauty products, but that isn’t all – Chickadviser.ca has plenty of calls for other items I’m not qualified for because of my eating plan. See what is available in your area.

Blogging:

By now you’ve figured out that I blog here. 😄  I also blog http://www.squidgesbeautyhaul.wordpress.com about my Beauty purchases and collections. Is there something you collect? Are obsessed with? Maybe you should blog about it.

Instagram

I’m also on Instagram @squidgeaboo with my Beauty collection . It’s fun. I do it from bed. I take pictures of my old stuff and my new acquisitions. What could you show off in photographs? Yes, a daily photo of your cat would be a hit. It’s the internet!

Guilty Pleasures

I will share this with you as long as you promise to stay friends with me. I will reveal my most disgusting guilty pleasure. Okay? Ready? I read Teen Mom gossip. I don’t watch the show, but I can’t not know what that Farrah Abraham gets up to! I’m so ashamed!

I suggest you develop some guilty pleasures of your own. I was going to check and see when the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on because Lisa Rinna is such a train wreck (I don’t know her Irl personality, but I hear it’s less bizarre) and they are starting a Toronto one, but I think it may be detrimental, all that yelling and backbiting. I’ll think on this one.

Good TV

Good positive uplifting TV shows

  • Who Line is it Anyway?zd2spvi4vbleo
  • Bob’s Burgers
  • Mrs. Browns Boys
  • The Simpsons
  • Friends reruns
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
  • The IT Crowd
  • Last Week Tonight
  • Vicar of Dibley
  • Parks and Recreation

Internet Surfing:

When I find I am just in the mood to surf the Web and not really to interface, there are a couple of things I do.

  • Shop. That’s pretty self-explanatory.
  • Play on Kickstarter, this is new to me. I had not realized the fun one can have, and the creative items being made here. Do not miss this.
  • One of a Kind Craft Show: This is a quarterly show in Ontario, filled with artists. They have a website, I can peruse them for hours.
  • eBay poking around: I will often play on eBay for hours, looking for old toys I once had, evaluating some of my treasures, looking for weird stuff.
  • Cracked.com: goodness. If you go here, have someone check on you. You will get lost. Fascinating articles, one leads to another.

There are some of the ways I ensure I have joy in my life? What do you do to make sure there is joy in your life?

Stay joyful, my zebra friends! 😘

Update: Monday Evening

12yfpcy8tymaj6

Well, that didn’t go as planned. I decided to lie down at 1:00 and begged my husband to wake me up at 5:00, so I could soak in the tub. He remembered as he woke me up at 7:00. Oh, well.

I am feeling slightly better, but the back of my head is hurting, which means likely means more snow on the way. I think I need to take it really easy this week. Whatever is going on is serious, I need pampering.

I could be getting the flu. I do get very emotional whenever I get physically ill with a virus.

I don’t think people realize how hard I work to be interesting and cheerful. It’s actually a lot of work. I spend at least two to three hours a day reading articles so I have interesting things to talk about. I think that needs to stop for a bit.

I’m going to ensure I’m up on my vitamins. Two people have mentioned vitamin D in the past week, that can’t be a coincidence.

Cutting back on my sugar again. I’m starting to mindlessly eat again. Mostly when I’m trying to keep myself awake. I should just let myself sleep and just be done with it.

So, I’m still pretty grouchy, but I’m not as dark as I was. Does this mean I’m a shade of grey? 😜 Ew.

Beighton the best you can be!, my zebras! 😘

Impotent Rage

zsjsbkgkoqbhy

I’m sure you can probably guess what I’m annoyed about. A certain POTUS is being a giant idiot, and I am having a tougher and tougher time dealing with it. Let me explain.

It’s fairly easy to put your head down when you have a chronic illness, and keep your focus on your needs, focus on your family, focus on your next milestone. There is not a thing wrong with that. I think that is a phase we all go through, and it’s a healthy thing to do from time to time.

When the election campaign started for the 2016 election in the US, I didn’t pay much attention. After all, I’m Canadian. I held a passing interest as the global citizen I had always been, but then I started to shift. The current POTUS started saying some pretty sexist things as he was campaigning. Then some pretty outrageous and sexist things. By the time he was on to Nasty Woman in October, I was firmly with Her, and there I have remained.

Fortunately, I received an invitation to Pantsuit Nation after the horror of November 9th, and met some amazing, passionate people who care. I’ve made some very good friends! I have learned so much.

I don’t talk about politics much here, because it’s not relevant: it’s not important. Not usually. Right now, though, I am feeling shell-shocked. I haven’t felt this way since right after 9-11. I feel like I’m wandering in a daze whispering why?

But that’s not productive. What is enraging me the most are the people who are ignorant of the facts, who are acting as if this measure wasn’t taken, no vetting would be done. What I must do is step away, inform myself with reputable news sites, and stay away from comment sections.

Where my heart breaks the most, is my friends in the US who have similar physical challenges. While I whoop it up in Canada with socialized medicine and medical marijuana, people can’t see their doctors.

Every time I think about it I start eating cookies. That’s not good either. Maybe I should nap.

Wait: I have a better idea! Movie time..Name it!
