Letting Go

giphy2

I’m likely having a flare-up. At least I assume that’s what is going on. My brains are currently pretty scrambled. The pain is pretty intense at the moment, and the pain medication is taking the edge off, but not much more. I continue to take it, don’t want to deal with withdrawal or anything, but it doesn’t really make much of a difference.

Sorry, bit of a pause there, my husband came upstairs after his weekly call with his parents to check on me, and I got some medication and rub. That was nice. I’m slightly more comfortable, but not too much. At least my neck feels not quite as sharp.

Husband and I had quite a row yesterday. No. Wait. I had a tantrum. That’s better. I’m not doing well with accepting that I need as much help as I do. He is a bit overwhelmed with his own duties and obligations and didn’t see that I had not eaten and had missed my medications too long. Yesterday morning I was trying to take my morning pills, but I kept dozing off from pain and sleepiness. I’m usually pretty vocal about my needs, so he doesn’t always babysit me. It blew over quickly, though. We spoke honestly with the kids about how we did things badly. But this was the outcome. I spoke about my trouble accepting help, but I really need it right now. It wasn’t positive, but I think we moved on in a positive way.

So that help thing. We don’t have any help in the community at all. Besides professionals, we just don’t have anyone we can rely on. It’s just the four of us. As I’ve mentioned, our kids have learning disabilities. Our daughter, Aspergers, our son, a processing disorder.  Both of them are in counselling and support twice a week, and have severe anxiety issues. I feel really awful asking for anything from my husband! Although he gives so freely!

Anyway, I realize I just need to trust he will tell me when he has had enough. I have gone two weeks without a proper bath and I just need to suck it up and do it at midnight if we must. Despite our daughter, newly minted 16, shushing us for being too loud at 8:30 last night, Saturday. We are a party crowd.

The luxury of sitting up has been whittled to a few minutes at a time. The nausea and back pain is ever present. I realize now I must let go of a lot of things I may have wanted for myself coming up. I really need to focus on myself right now. This is not something that comes easily to me. Sure, I can do face masks and things, but to really rest without distraction is tough.

I need to let go of worrying about what people think about me. So much of my life I was taught that other people’s opinions were paramount, and it is my duty to micromanage those opinions. No wonder I’m so tired! There are certainly a lot of people who dislike me, I think more than the average person, but I need to just stop trying to dissect what is wrong with me and live my life. I need to chalk it up to being a psycho magnet, as we used to call it back in the day, I know I am very naieve and have made some very bad choices in friendship, and I know a few enemies were made due to people ascribing me stories or characteristics which don’t belong to me at all. Many along the way seem to have this idea I’ve lived a perfect life. I’m some rich kid. Ha! Bizarre. Anyway, I really do need to stop looking back at my life from others’ perspective because it doesn’t serve any purpose, but damn, it’s fascinating.

I need  to accept help. I need to stop with the caretaking. Do you know I was actually thinking of posting on Facebook that it would be okay to unfriend me, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings? I mean, people are kind of acting like I run around and punch them in my sleep, or make horrific posts…wait, I should go check that. I won’t share my health updates. I guess. Maybe. I dunno. I’m just back using it again.

I’m thinking I may play with makeup lying down one day. We shall see how that goes.

My son came into my bed this morning after my husband got up at 6. It was lovely. He had me so relaxed just by wrapping himself in his blanket beside me, putting his face close to mine, and stroking my cheek – I fell asleep! I love that boy! (My girl just as much!)

Ok, perhaps a warm bath would be good. I don’t know. I’m still so uncomfortable. It’s not quite sharp pain, I feel like I’m being squeezed by a boa constrictor. From my cheekbones to my hips. I need to relax, but I don’t know how. God, I think I may have to go to the hospital if this doesn’t let up somehow, or I find something that helps. I’m at least calling the doc tomorrow. Or having my husband do it. Ugh, having indigestion does not help.

Oh, sitting up feels so much better.

I will keep you posted.

So Grouchy

giphy1

I have been thinking about posting all week, I have just been so grouchy, I didn’t think it wise. Everything seems to be irritating me. I don’t like this at all. Isn’t it just like me to be irritated about being irritated? 😆

My head is sore. It hurts almost constantly. It’s bearable when I am lying down. My neck has this sharp kink where it feels as if something is sharply out of place.

I have about three to maybe four hours in the morning, where, if I’m very careful, I can sit up. I need to lie down periodically, but I can get a few things done. I can’t screw around, and when it’s time to quit, if I delay I may have to rest tomorrow, too. It’s tough, because I’m easily distracted and really clumsy.

And oh, so tired. I’m thinking it was the three hour appointment, but we are ten days past that now, I should have my strength back. But I can’t accomplish anything much.

I’m reorganizing everything I can get my hands on, which does tell how stressed I actually am.

I am trying to learn to relax, although I have no experience in it. Doctors orders. I’m also trying to watch positive shows, humour, and be generally happy. It’s helping. I mean, I know I am irrationally irritable. I’m trying to keep it to myself and not inflict it on anyone.

This pain. I do occasionally have better times. Resting is my lesson.

On the plus side, I really enjoyed Friends and Arrested Development. I was working so much when they were on, I didn’t see them. I’m not certain what’s next… Archer?

Hope you had a Happy Valentine’s day!

A Piece of the Puzzle

I visited the neurologist yesterday. She is amazing. Just lovely. Personable. Kind. Great bedside manner. She actually cares. Or if she doesn’t, she is a great actress! 😆

My appointment was for 2:30. We got in at 3, and left at 6, after everyone else. That’s dedication. Plus, she gave me nerve blocks in my face and head. I’m so happy!

Remember how I have been whining about these headaches since March, when they started? I have been having nausea and vomiting, dizziness, and a few other symptoms that are too minute to go into. I saw my pain doc in June, who is a neurologist, asked him about going to the emergency room. He shrugged, and kind of stumbled over words. I’m not a fan of the ER either. I’ve asked each doc about going to the emergency room with my symptoms and none were enthusiastic about me going, but didn’t love me sitting home in pain, either. But every one referred me to a neurologist.  We have a definite shortage right now. I’ve been rejected by a few.

Anyway, this doc feels strongly it is Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension. Essentially, I have spinal fluid leaking and I will need to do what is called a blood patch to fix it. I think that is a transfusion of my own blood and an epidural with it, but I was tired by then. I will have to research more.

Yes, it’s absolutely an EDS thing. Lucky me.

I do need an MRI, but the doctor said she felt my case was so strong, she felt we may not have to wait for the MRI before the patch, but she would speak to the doctor who does the procedure. He is someone I have worked with before. Highly skilled! Love him!

In the meantime, I need to be horizontal as much as possible, because it causes the least pain.

I’m going to rest now. Yesterday was a long day!

Hugs,

At The Bottom, Looking Up.

I’m trying to stay positive. I want to be positive. But my body is revolting (joke). I have never been in this much pain before. If you remember, I haven’t had any Botox injections in my body since last June. This was a treatment I had been having for 11 years, every 10 weeks. I have also only had one migraine Botox treatment since then, October. So no relief from the neck and head pain or migraine pain since then.

My sleep is terribly fractured. Pain keeps waking me up. My current doctors don’t feel qualified to prescribe what they feel I need to help with this. I did sleep for 24 hours Friday to Saturday, so that was amazing. I did have to take a bunch of medication, still within my prescribed plan, to get there.

There’s a bunch more, but it’s a bore. The meniscus in my knees have gone. I would love to watch me walk as I dash to the washroom, because they are popping in and out like crazy. It must be hilarious.

The point is that I will be incredibly fresh when I get to the EDS Clinic next month. I will have had no treatment since October, just my meds.

I’m like a goldfish right now. I try to keep thoughts in my head, watch upbeat shows, save my energy for my husband and kids. I cry much of the time. I don’t even realize it, but the tears are there. Pain. Exhaustion. I don’t want to sleep through life! My kids seem to be doing quite all right for the moment! It’s really new, so I am crossing my fingers.

I play with makeup a lot. Although it will take me 3 to 4 hours what should really take 45 minutes. Distracted by tv, Looking for stuff, what was I doing?, oh yeah, that brush…

One of the scariest things is that I’m getting pins and needles down my arms. I can’t feel my fingers that much anymore, my fingers are all cracking and cramping. They become more and more useless. I have to figure it out, but I never have the strength to. Or I never remember when I’m at that moment. Grrr! I even keep a notpad to write things down, but I haven’t captured it yet.

My husband is being wonderful, as usual. He has been baking gluten-free brownies every week so I can have them with my evening medicine. My gynecologist put me back on Visanne so maybe we can stop some of the cramping. Yay! Acne and weight gain! I’ve put on 10 and taken off 2. I had been hitting the chocolate pretty hard over Christmas.

Anyway, I’m getting pretty tired. Hugs to everyone going through same or similar. When I don’t have energy for makeup, I have been making some crappy crafts by covering old containers with duck tape. The decorative stuff they have out now.  I will try and take a photo of some projects if I can. They aren’t gorgeous, but they keep my hands moving. It’s something to focus on, other than what’s hurting now. It’s good.

Fail Day!

giphy1

My fails today haven’t been this acrobatic, but they’ve been fun! I subluxed my toe sometime yesterday, so that doesn’t feel really good. I’m being much more of a baby about it than I’d like to be.

My husband has been worried I’m only eating the same thing over and over, so he bought me some chilled shrimp. Now, he was going on and on about making his own sauce, because the commercial cocktail sauce isn’t FODMAP friendly. I happily dug in, not realizing I was eating commercial sauce, and nearly died from the burning of my mouth. Husband had taken the kid to school – it was a late start and I had been up since 4 am. However he seemed confused at my repeated requests for cheese. Perhaps he doesn’t know that cheese is the antidote to fire mouth.

Ah, he just wandered up here on a conference call looking for something that was never up here in the first place. Maybe he’s just stupid. 😂😂😂 far from it! It would be nice to have company.

Sigh. So then, the cocktail sauce spilled all over my fuzzy zebra blanket, and I dropped the remote into it. I wasn’t thinking and I licked my hand where the sauce got on it. Which reignited my fire-tongue. Wah! Here’s me: cocktail sauce all over my hands, trying to stand up without spilling any more or reinjuring my toe, trying to scooch off the bed yelling “fuck” totally forgetting my husband may be on a conference call. Oops. His fault. Somehow. 😛

My head still hurts. My goal is to stay awake most of today. Yesterday I gave up at 2:00 and woke up at 4:00 This morning. I still need to lie down most of the time.

Goddamn I hold my body rigid. I need to stop this.

My days are pretty okay for the mornings, but noon is the time. Every second day I sleep for 18 hours, it seems. I try to change the pattern, but it doesn’t seem to work. I am still trying to find a doctor, but I fear I will not be able to wait. I may need to go to the ER.

I’ve been feeling a bit more social, but that’s all well and good until someone says something stupid. I know I’m sensitive right now and I’m overreacting to a minor throwaway comment, but I should think about it’s great that people see me as the same old me.

I did buy some cute pajama pants that arrived yesterday. They look snuggly. I’m excited. I’m so cold all the time. I can finally wear warm clothes. Layers. People. Layers.

I have been burning up Netflix. My picks:

  • American Vandal – a mockumentary about the most serious of subjects: Who drew the dicks?
  • Big Mouth – the first episode is uncomfortable, but it gets better. Dirty, dirty humour, but you will learn so much. Some of my favorite writers.
  • Evil Things – creepy things for Halloween, this is on TLC, actually, really trashy show about haunted objects.
  • The Exorcist (tv show) – I’ve watched two episodes of this, it is creepy as hell. I believe Season two is on television.

Oooh, great, and I’ve lost the remote so I can’t look up any more. Sigh. My day.

Muddling Through

giphy10

All in all, I’m not feeling too awful. I hadn’t had a great time sleeping, but once I’d figured out my feet haven’t been warm since… I can’t remember, it was time for some socks. I usually can’t sleep with socks on, but my feet liked this, and I slept like the proverbial log. I thought I should look online to see if I could find some slippers. Not an easy thing in August. I may stick with the socks with the trippy bottoms for now.

I was miserable last night. I had a couple of days where I had slept for 20 hours or so, and my meds were all screwed up. My knee kept popping out, my face and head hurt, my back hurt, I had cramps, I couldn’t remember anything, and I was lonely.  I was whining to my husband that I couldn’t get comfortable, and I was freezing. I wanted more pillows, and he got this happy look on his face. Apparently, he had purchased all these pillows and didn’t know what to do with them. So he immediately piled four pillows on me and produced three from under the bed. Such comfort!

My sheets are so gross and smelly. I’ve been so sick, husband hasn’t been able to get me out long enough to change them. This weekend. I am so excited! The kids’ bedding is changed every week, but I’m always asking him to leave it just one more week, we will be fine! Ugh.

I am so tired these days. The heat, the pain, not moving, the stress. It adds up. I’m usually better after my shots, but I haven’t heard from the clinic yet. I’m not eating as much, either. I get weighed on the weekend, usually, too.

Today it’s mostly my head, my back, and my pubic bone giving me trouble. My knees are acting up when I get up to use the washroom. I try to straighten them and they pop and crack, quite painfully, as you see the patella slide around, or it knocks sideways before sliding into place. God, it hurts.  I’m trying to rehydrate. Last night I had the worst case of dry mouth. It’s probably from all that time asleep. I should have taken in some water. Thunder storms and rain today. The big stick that pokes my wounds.

My boy is a grouchy today. His sister is being sweet to me. I was thinking just yesterday how I will missthem when school starts. Check that. Not the fighting. Sigh.

As long as my feet are warm, I’m sleepy. So it’s naptime. I’m nodding off.

Not-so-Brief Update

giphy7

I should be sleeping. People on TV aren’t really making sense anymore, and husband is snoring beside me. But I’m awake and my back hurts and my head feels as if a small Lego person is wielding a pickaxe and slamming it into the back of my head, right where it joins my neck. It’s wrapping around to my face, and I only feel good when I’m lightly biting on my mouth guard.

I spoke with my dietician today, and it looks like I’m down a bit more food. She is not qualified, of course, but she did confirm that it sort of sounds kind of like I’m tending towards gastroparesis, and I should see a gastroenterologist asap to get the tests.

  • Fatty foods are bothering me. Consistent with gastroparesis
  • Eat and drink alternately. I’m struggling, it’s cutting down on my food.
  • The pain I’m having is in my upper area, in my stomach, not bloating or flatulence.  Paired with nausea and vomiting, consistent with gastroparesis,

We spoke in depth, and until my stomach gets checked out, we are going to try garlic and onion just a miniscule bit. I am stopping anything fatty. I had some chips and oven baked hash browns make me sick.

I have tons of allergies, and damage to my throat due to acid damage, I’m very picky. So, it’s my fault really, I’m not eating such a varied diet.

I do have a Neurologist appointment for the beginning of October ❤ I just have to survive.

We put in the request for the gastroenterologist at the same time, so I am hoping it should appear shortly.  I’m such an optimist!

I went to bed at 2 pm yesterday and woke up at 7:30 This morning, for this appointment.  I woke up disoriented and started yelling. I didn’t expect to sleep so long. Husband took it personally. 😭 I felt awful. We need to work this out. He wants to go to our marriage counsellor,  but the person we were seeing I saw personally. Last I emailed her she answered really strangely. She took my words and quoted them, saying she was sorry I was feeling “awful”. This was right after my head pain, when it was really new and really bad. I was put off and not excited to deal with her again. I don’t know exactly why I was offended so much, but it almost feels like mocking. The mature person would ask about it. The mature person has more energy than I do, I think. I honestly think, she’s moved to a new office, under new rules and the rules may be stricter. But I’m really put off. If it is really important to him, I will suck it up, but it will be mentioned.

Speaking of which, husband paid me a strange yet flattering compliment via our son this weekend. Our son will be diagnosed with Autism when he returns to school in the fall, and he is currently seeing various therapists to assist with organization, motor control, etc. One therapist is leaving to move to a different facility and he had the choice to move with her or stay and work with another therapist. We expected him to make his dad do the talking, but he marched in (he’s 13, he usually goes into the session alone, but he’s not ready to travel alone. Not there, to school, yes. He’s about 11 in maturity, anyway) and essentially fired her. Did all the talking for the hour when he’s usually mute. My husband said that’s like me. I’m good at having the difficult conversations.

Like the time I had a pregnancy scare with my ex-husband? I found him at some stupid place he conned a friend into renting so they could play “office”. I pulled him outside saying “I need to talk to you!” Before I could say one word he said, “I know, you have AIDS.” I only wish I knew then that when people accuse you of something, they are always talking about themselves. I can’t believe how many more years I was in that stupid marriage, too. Definitely not pregnant. HIV-free too. Only 1 STD, and that wasn’t exactly consensual, KWIM. But it was the most easily cleared up thank goodness, no lasting effects. Phew! I wonder what risky behaviour he’d been up to? 🤔

I’m so tired I watched tv today. Just watched tv. Tired isn’t right. Uh. I don’t know the word.

If you’re bored, Naked on Netflix is hysterical. It stars Marlon Wayans Ass, I watched Leah Remini Scientology Series. My god her makeup is Divine! The Scott Petersen documentary about him killing his wife, where I’m supposed to think he’s innocent.  Pfft.

Ugh, I’m starting to have these brief, sharp pains in my upper right ribcage, under my boob when I take a really deep breath. I had it this morning, I thought I could find a good position, I don’t know. I should probably just zone out until I can see a doctor, have people keep checking on me and wipe me down every once in a while.

I am having such a tough time eating, too. I had to miss dinner because of the nausea. I had oatmeal, a half lunch plate of nachos (lactose-free cheese and corn based tortilla chips) the rest at 3:30, and water plus unsweetened iced tea. I’m nervous about this pattern and how long this will sustain me. Losing another 15 lbs would be so cool, but it’s gotta stop somewhere. It’s really not normal to have this metabolism at my age.

Ok. Midnight. I’m going to turn into a pumpkin.

But hey, I did two blog posts! If you are interested in beauty, check out my beauty blog, Squidge’s Beauty Haul this post is on The Ordinary skincare line.
