Rough Time

giphy3

We ended up, finally, with a couple of inches of snow this morning. My kids, or maybe one was my husband? Were kind enough to send me photos.

I’m in agony. I was whiny yesterday? Ha ha! I tried to stay moving so I wouldn’t stiffen up. Today, I am like Frankenstein’s monster. I have nearly no fine motor skills. I crash around like a huge boar.

Something strange happened this morning. I took my medicine, the marijuana oil, and a while later I felt better. I had been lying still, but I felt dramatically better, and just a bit loopy and nauseated. Did I accidentally take my medicine twice? I feel really good. Just sick. Oops! Then I was ill, which happens so often we keep kidney bowls nearby. I just coughed up some bile. I had to use the washroom. As soon as I went to stand- oh, yes! I had the correct dose. It is very strange for me to do things out of order. But if I had doubled my dose, I could not be in THAT much pain, I am fine. So I hobbled back into bed, and finished a couple of errands I needed to do.

On days that are not so intense, I can keep moving, even if I don’t walk around much. This means my back doesn’t hurt nearly as much. On days when the pain is head to toe, though, there is just no way to deal, except to get through it and recover and piece myself together on the other side.

I am so glad my family is understanding.

My lovely cousin was stuck in town at the airport this morning, when I was at the peak of my stoned-ness, (?) Or whatever was going on there: trying to relax and not cry. She messaged me, I know she could tell I wasn’t myself. I hope I didn’t scare her!

I’m sure it will alarm at least a couple of family members to see me. Over the last three years I’ve lost 120 lbs. Mostly due to gastroparesis, but I know this will be universally ‘positive’ however losing as much as 40 lbs in 3 weeks due to vomiting is not the right way. My body just rejected food. It was horrid. I’m straightening my lovely curly hair because I lie down so much the curls just get crushed and become difficult to manage. That wheelchair we will be investing in. I’m falling so often from my knees giving out, and don’t forget that damn exhaustion!

Ah, well.  Speaking of exhaustion, I am going to have a nap, as I haven’t been sleeping well. I just got a new onesie from Torrid, it has Hello Kitty on it! Just some sleep and when the weather breaks, I need to wrap some gifts. I do this every year. I shop, forget what I buy, my husband hides everything, and when it’s wrapping time, there is a mountain of things!  Ah, its usually small stuff. My daughter’s usually a good helper.

Okay! Gotta nap this out! My lower back, oh wow! Can they do transplants yet?

The Migraine Dance

giphy2

I don’t really know what is going on with the back of my head, but it might be a migraine thing, so let’s call it an offshoot of my migraines for now.

I’m learning to dance with them. They are leading. I need to lie down when it’s time to lie down. Sleep when it’s time to sleep. It’s rather like having a newborn in the house, only I’m the newborn! Although I do like the idea of rebirthing myself. That may be too deep for my brain at the moment.

This does mean I’m keeping irregular hours. I did see my

If we ever have competitive napping, though… I nap hard!

husband for a few minutes this evening, as I woke up to use the washroom as he was going to sleep. So much for my 4 hour nap. More like 10. I will sleep more. It’s 1 am now. By 2 I should be ready again. I need 18 hours every 2nd day.

I’m almost ready to plant myself at the ER.

My neck and back cracked loudly today, but the pain ended up intensifying in my neck. My back feels better. My toe feels like it’s healing, too.

I am supposed to be getting the Botox shots for migraine on the 24th of October, I think. The clinic can at least do that. I’m hoping that helps, because it did help a bit in June. I do tend to sleep more before my shots, as the pain gets worse and I’m 2 months without now, so I guess it isn’t abnormal for me, but geez, I would like to see my family.

Five minutes should be enough. 🤣 they’re teens!

I know this sounds like exactly the opposite of what I just said, but it isn’t. Those times I am awake, I am pushing myself just a bit to accomplish things. Blogging, putting on makeup, organizing this or that. At least when I’m sleeping I don’t feel like I’m not accomplishing anything, either. I’m trying to be awake between 6 am and noon, at least. It seems to be my best time, and I am happy I’m getting a few small things done.

Life. Still good. Bitchy as hell, but I have some great companions! 😁

Im Thinking of Hiring a Male Escort…

giphy13

…to come over and watch tv with me. You see, my family is impossible to watch television with. The husband can only watch things that require sporadic attention, like sports, or a comedian. I cajoled him into watching Stranger Things with me last weekend, and in the first freaking episode he had figured out major plot points! I didn’t let him know this, of course. He was great, I know this required extra effort on his part. We then watched Atypical, which is about an 18-year old with autism. That was painful. He is dealing with his own autism and it hit a bit close to home, I think. Anyway, it was wonderful of him to watch with me, but I can’t ask him to do this regularly. He has a stressful job, and to come home and stress over tv is too much.

My daughter watched some tv with me the other day. She likes her shows, though. Either horror movies or teen shows.

I’ve been trying to pull away from documentary and watch more comedy. I think it’s good.

Finally managed to reach my grandmother yesterday. She reminded me she’s turning 96 next week. She asked how old I was, and when I said 47 in November, she replied “Oh, you’re old, too!” 🤣 My husband is 49 next week. Yikes! We is ancient.

Chatting with grandma was lovely but tough. She has a benign tumour on her pancreas, and a polyp in her throat. She needs to have all her food blended. We compared pathetic diets, followed by a round of ‘I feel bad for you!’ ‘No, I feel bad for you!’ It’s horrible to be pitied by your grandmother! I assured her I have a wonderful full life, even if it’s not very exciting. I can’t help but shake the feeling she’s hanging on to make sure we grandkids are all settled.

My life is really lovely. I do have a nice spot carved out here. It’s a quiet life, I’m not making huge splashes at anything. But is that what I want? I have enough people in this world with grudges against me, for very silly things, for the most part. I will just sit here quietly and enjoy my life and quietly do what I can to avoid pain. Cultivate what friendships I can, and just be in the moment.

It sounds right.

North American Eclipse 2017

20170824_084611

My family got together on Monday, August 21, 2017 to enjoy the partial eclipse. We are in Toronto, so we only saw a crescent shape, but it was a fantastic opportunity to get together. My husband studied astronomy and chemical engineering in school, so he is well prepared for this sort of event.

We had the kids make box viewers over the weekend, so 20170821_144218we would be prepared. Here is the first view from my son’s viewer a few minutes into the start of the eclipse. There isn’t much into the crescent here.

We decided it would be best to be in the backyard, because of the events in the states in Virginia, it might be unseemly for a bunch of white people to be standing on the lawn with boxes on their heads, even if it was Canada. I’m totally kidding. Or I was, until some knucklehead was fired from his job in a small city nearby for flying the confederate flag from his truck. Sometimes I don’t understand people. Why be a jerk just to be a jerk? It’s not like Canadians have ties to the confederate flag.  Anyway…

20170821_144257

Here is my daughter’s viewer, close to totality for us. You can see we had about 2/3 of the sun covered. It wasn’t all that dark, sort of like a cloudy afternoon or approaching dusk, but the shadows were so neat! They were different from anything I’d ever seen! The shadows were ominous, like something very spooky was going to happen. But then the shadows reversed and the light returned to normal again.

What was most enjoyable was spending time with the kids. They played with my Snapchat filters for a while, and we laughed a lot.

20170824_084453

I was able to spend some time in the backyard in the sunshine. I haven’t been able to sit in the sun for years. But my family pulled out a lawn chair for me and we had a nice relaxing visit for fifteen minutes before we had to go back in.

Surveying the property as my darling husband wrestles a humongous pumpkin! 😄

The family had worked hard at cleaning up the yard. There is a lovely grape arbour just outside of the photo. We don’t harvest the grapes, though. We don’t have the spoons to make wine or jam.

I’m worn out. I’ve been sleeping from 2 to 9 and then 1 to 6 am. I’m hoping something can be tweaked so I feel better and less exhausted. This is so boring.

Irreplaceable Me

giphy7

How many days has it been? A million? Ugh.

I’m so bored. All I can do is sleep and sometimes take medicine. I’m way off my routine, I’m not sure what I’ve taken on time this week. Actually,  I’ve mostly missed my 3:00 pills and my mmj. That should be it. My 6:00 a couple of times. But my husband has been getting home earlier and checks now.

I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow! Husband and I are making our list tonight of what we have been seeing. I’m not going to let him bully me into hoping things will get better. This has been consistent pain now for months. I don’t know that I necessarily need more pain medication, but I likely need more investigation into what is going on. This ‘it’s just eds/endo/fibro’ stuff isn’t going to work anymore. When I’m losing use of my hands, when I can’t eat for several days (usually when I have the flu I can take something in without the digestive problems I’ve had. I woke up this morning to find myself on the toilet, so, yeah, ew.).  I want to get this neck thing straightened out -literally! My knees, these damn headaches, the list goes on.

The positive side of things is that I’m reminded how valuable I am to my family. My son turns 13 on Sunday, and my husband has been admirably juggling everything, however the gifts had not been bought. That’s usually my domain. When I have a flare-up, I can still often get things done. When I’m completely out of commission and can do nothing but sleep? Then we have a problem. Then we start to see how not having Mommy around affects us.

I woke up yesterday evening around 7:00 to find my son hovering at the foot of my bed. He hasn’t been diagnosed, but he is definitely on the autism spectrum, and he was doing a little dance of impatience with hand flapping as he waited for me to wake up. As soon as I opened my eyes he dove into my bed and exclaimed he was waiting for me to wake up because he wanted a snuggle. He settled right in beside me, and we watched TV.  It was lovely.

It’s good to be needed.

These are the sleep shorts I bought at Old Navy. I bought 2 pair 20170606_201735of shorts, I think I have 3 complete pajama sets, as they have camisole to go with them, a romper, a strappy top, and a pair of socks all with the zebra pattern on them.  I will take a photo one day when I’m wearing them, once they are all washed up! It’s nice to buy from the regular size part of the store. There are so many choices!  I’m almost redoing my wardrobe. I have so many clothes to get rid of. I don’t ever want to get big again. But we can’t always control that stuff, can we? My biggest things are not eating when I’d rather be sleeping, because sometimes I just eat to keep myself awake, and keeping an eye on my sugar intake. When I eat too much sugar, my weight skyrockets. When I stop, my weight drops at 2 lbs per week. Magic.

OK.  I’m tuckered out. I have lots to do for tomorrow.

Have a beautiful day, Zebra friends! 😘

Wonderful Things

giphy5

My family has been treating me so wonderfully the past couple of weeks. Let’s enumerate the wonderful things they’ve done for me:

My husband:

  • Has gone to the post office to retrieve numerous packages for me
  • Has found the money to allow me to shop my brains out, since it’s just about the only thing I have time and patience for. Plus Zebra outfits!
  • He brought home French Fries for me even though they were out of his way and it was late at night and he was tired
  • He got out of the warm shower to grab me a barf bucket
  • He watched an episode of South Park just because I asked
  • He has run so many errands for me, I can’t even count them!

My Daughter, 15

  • She has been filling my water bottles regularly
  • Listening to my exciting stories even when she’s bored
  • Checking up on me to make sure I have everything
  • Bringing me breakfast during the week

My Son, 13 in 6 days!

  • He has been keeping my water bottles full
  • He has been spending time with me, like the two hours last night where he snuggled and watched TV and chatted
  • Remembering not to hug me without asking, because I’m so sore
  • Bringing my coffee in the morning on weekends

My family has been awesome. Except for:

Husband:

  • Forgetting about me in the bathtub and nobody hearing me yelling about getting the shower head down, so I had to wash my hair under the tap. It was a bit uncomfortable, but not the end of the world. I did have fun teasing him about it, though! 😄

I prefer to get help in and out of the tub as I’ve been so shaky lately.  I don’t need that much assistance, just someone to ‘catch’ me, really, if I start to go over. Or call 9-1-1 if I pass out. I’m still so weak from whatever is going on with me.

I hope you enjoyed my glimpse into my family. Are you interested in my Sephora Haul? I can either show a photo here, or link my Beauty Blog post. Let me know.

Stay healthy Zebras! 😘

Growing Old Together

giphy30

Yesterday turned out to be quite hellacious for me, pain-wise. We’ve been having a lot of rain and intense storms, as has much of North America, I think? I’m very sorry, I can barely concentrate on what goes on in this room. It’s supposed to be a mixed bag this summer, from what I understand. Hot, cold, rainy, all over the place.

Back to yesterday, my treatment is coming up either Tuesday or the Tuesday after, my husband isn’t certain. Which means the last injections are wearing off a bit, it doesn’t always happen, but usually. My bet is on this Tuesday, since the low-level headache started on Sunday of last week. It’s usually the first sign my treatment is coming up. It’s not that bad, it’s like a mosquito buzzing, annoying, but livable.

Where were we? Yesterday. Thunderstorms were gathering all day, and I could feel that tension in the back of my head. It was not at all pleasant, and began to creep down my neck. It felt like I had something out-of-place and it was pressing? It hurt so much.

giphy31By 9:00 my husband came to bed, and I was really hurting. I was trying not to move my neck, and it was tough to think. I had my neck pillow holding me steady. It was like something was pressing on something leading to my brain, or, like Homer Simpson, I had a crayon up my nose.

We chatted for a bit, snuggling, and he tried to boop my nose, but missed by half an inch. He’s had problems with glaucoma, surgery last November. He closed his eye and tried for the boop again. He got it! It’s sobering to realize how much vision he’s lost, but we did have a laugh. We are quite the pair. For a good few minutes last night, our bedroom sounded like “oof” “ow” “ouch” “aaagh” “dang” “crud” “ugh” “ow”! How romantic! 😄

We did get some kissy-face in, nice in a thunderstorm. But it’s tough to be all romantic with your partner when your neck is stiff and your hands lock up into mannequin hands.

This was strange, because it’s never been this bad before. I do have problems with my hands. They get stiff and sore, and I haven’t been bracing them. I also haven’t been resting them as much as I should, doing all this typing. I have been feeling the stiffness quite a lot lately. I guess last night, with the rain and thunderstorm starting at 3:00 in the afternoon, just when the kids get out from school, naturally, and raining off and on until after midnight had something to do with it.

Of course, my daughter did not wear her new rain jacket and came home drenched, but my son did wear his! Bravo!

Of course my husband was amused by my predicament, and I pretended to run my mannequin hands through his hair. There was no point in doing movie banter, he hasn’t seen any movies. I pretended to run my mannequin hands over his face, and they were fairly numb at this point, and he was laughing so hard I was afraid we’d wake the kids. Besides, my stomach was hurting.

So he went to sleep, and I stayed up listening to the storm for a while longer while trying to relax. I wanted to see if relaxation would help whatever was wrong with my neck. Finally, I decided sleep was a better choice, and bailed.

This morning finds my neck much more flexible with little pain, but you can feel a background warning. I will keep the Voltaren handy! And ensure I keep relaxed. Deep breaths. I should check the weather…

Have a fantastic day Zebra friends! 😘
